COLORADO SPRINGS – Claps and cheers filled the hallways of the Children’s Hospital in Denver as 4-year-old Colorado Springs Police Officer Joshua finished his last round of chemotherapy Sunday.

This is a HUGE day for Joshua Salmoiraghi and his family as he has been battling Stage IV kidney cancer since he was just 3 years old. The Colorado Springs Police Department posted a video on Twitter of Joshua proudly ringing the bell at the Children’s Hospital in Denver.

The brave young boy was sworn into the Colorado Springs Police Department back in April just before he was to undergo an aggressive round of treatment. Joshua’s road has not been an easy one as he was considered in remission on December 30, 2017 after an 11-centimeter long tumor along his left kidney was removed.

Less than a month later, a new tumor was discovered in his left lung confirming the cancer had come back. This was when CSPD decided to have Joshua take the oath of office in his custom-made police uniform.

Joshua’s family moved to Colorado Springs from Los Angeles in March. Joseph Salmoiraghi, Joshua’s father, is a disabled veteran and pastor, while his mother, Amanda, is a Major in the USAF stationed at Peterson Air Force Base.

Joshua also has two older brothers, Benjamin and Timothy.

According to police, Joshua is expected to undergo radiation therapy for his chest in the coming weeks. We are hopeful the end of Joshua’s cancer battle is near, and wish for peace for his family.
